Vessel Efficiency Optimisation projet update
The MOVE project, created and managed by MSE, is aiming to enhance through-life monitoring of vessel propulsion systems by reducing the cost of retro-fitting torque sensors to prop shafts.
Development of the novel clamp-on torque sensor has been completed to prototype stage by Isle of Wight partner Datum Electronics.
This technology will allow a torque sensor to be installed very rapidly and often with zero interruption to vessel operations.
Prototype units are now ready to be installed on a pilot vessel and an offshore support vessel for at-sea trials. The project is being supported under Innovate UK's Vessel Efficiency III programme. Other partners include Lloyds Register, Gardline, Triskel Marine, Reap Systems and University of Strathclyde.
