‘WICO’ Small Wind Project Delivers Guidelines
As part of the EU Sustainable Energy Week Marine South East joined with its Spanish, (Diputacion Huelva) and Italian (Province of Ravenna) partners in the ‘WICO’ project to launch a set of Guidelines to promote the deployment of small wind systems along European Coastlines.
The launch was broadcast live by webcast, excerpts of which can be viewed at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpL3t76bSAY
The event ended with an address from the Honourable Vittorio Prodi - Member of the European Parliament Environment Commission.
The main goal of WICO is to share knowledge and experience across Europe to promote the use of small wind turbines where they are most effective and appropriate. The project has focussed on coastal areas which usually have significantly better wind resources when compared with inland sites.
The WICO Guidelines have been produced to provide decision makers with key information and solutions to a number of issues:
* Information on how to influence and modify local planning rules to simplify the procedures for the installation of small wind systems
* Information on how to overcome the barriers to installations
* Technical information
* Information on the economic viability of small wind systems and financial incentive systems
