Solent Futures SME Programme Fund Launched

BAE Systems has joined up with the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership and Portsmouth City Council to support the Solent Futures SME Programme Fund.

This initiative forms part of the Government's Regional Growth Fund, with £4.7 million of investment funding available to help SMEs in the Portsmouth Naval Base supply chain in the Solent region.

As the shipbuilding sector starts to come off a recent peak of activity driven by construction of the Royal Navy's new Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers, the maritime services sector is gearing up to accommodate the completed flagships, with the first of Class HMS Queen Elizabeth expected to arrive in her home port of Portsmouth in 2017.

Bids are invited for grants of between £10,000 and £300,000 and suppliers will be required to invest match funding into a project alongside a Solent Futures funding award.

Funding will be allocated via a competitive bidding process and applications will be assessed by a panel comprising representatives from the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership, Portsmouth City Council and BAE Systems.
