Marine planning in the South Marine Plan Areas – workshop, 8th October Portsmouth, 9th October Isle of Wight

The South Inshore and South Offshore areas are the third and fourth areas in England to be selected for marine planning. The South Inshore area includes a coastline that stretches from near Folkestone to the River Dart. These two area plans will become part of a comprehensive marine planning system around England, enabling the effective integration of economic, social and environmental factors and promoting the sustainable development of our seas.

As part of the formal consultation on this report in September/October the Marine Management Organisation are holding a series of workshops. Interested parties are invited to come along and have their say on the key issues for your area and where they occur.

The purpose of these workshops is to:
* Introduce the evidence we are using for the south marine plans and get your views if anything is missing; and
* Explore the key issues coming from this evidence base, looking at where these issues are occurring and who they may affect.

The workshops are being run by the MMO in partnership with the Devon Maritime Forum, Dorset Coast Forum and Solent Forum to benefit from their local knowledge, standing and contacts. The workshops are important and will help the MMO to refine the report, highlight any evidence gaps we may need to address, and contribute toward developing the South marine plans.

The locations for these workshops are as detailed below. To register your interest in attending one of these events, please click on the relevant email address below for your preferred location. Each event will cover the same agenda and so there is no need to attend more than one.

* 8 October - Portsmouth info@solentforum.org

* 9 October - Isle of Wight info@solentforum.org

* 15 October - Portland dorset.coast@dorsetcc.gov.uk

* 16 October - Torquay info@devonmaritimeforum.org.uk

Each workshop will run from 10am-4pm. If you would like to attend one of these events, please respond by the 13th September 2013. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. In addition to your preferred location, please also state any alternatives and if you have any dietary and other special requirements.

If you have any specific marine planning queries the please direct those to the MMO in the first instance by emailing planning@marinemanagement.org.uk .

The number of places are limited. In the event of oversubscription for preferred and alternative locations, unsuccessful registrations will be added to a reserve list. We will circulate an agenda for the workshops, including a link to the first draft SPAR in due course.

By signing up to attend a workshop, you are agreeing to be added to the MMO contact database and will receive regular marine planning updates. Please let us know if you do not wish to be added to our distribution list.
