A new careers website has recently been launched by Superyacht UK, one of the largest associations within the British Marine Federation. The site, http://www.superyachtuk.com/careers, is designed to close the gap between interest in Superyachts and action, providing information on entry routes, career progression, qualifications needed and recruitment and training providers.

The Association has recognised that there is an increasing demand for crew to work on super yachts around the globe and aims to support those in the profession and raise the profile of the sector to encourage new recruits.

The tremendous growth experienced by the Superyacht industry, estimated at 500% in the past 10 years, has created a worldwide shortage of trained and qualified crew, both on deck and in engineering occupations. Experts are estimating that 435 yachts of more than 30 metres were launched in 2007, in addition to a number of 100 metres plus, creating a further huge demand.

Martin Redmayne, The Yacht Report and Chairman of Superyacht UK said: "The tremendous growth in the Superyacht sector is great news for the industry and this new website starts to address the demand for crew. It is a great initiative from Superyacht UK and will serve many purposes, from providing support to raising the profile of the sector and encouraging new entrants."

The website takes people through the job options available within the engineering, deck and service fields, with roles ranging from Captain to Electrician, Chief Steward to Chef. It also identifies the entry level positions and those jobs more likely to be found on larger yachts.

The site also outlines a step by step guide to gaining the correct training and qualifications, such as the MCA and RYA certifications, as well as putting people in touch with recruitment and training providers making the process quick and easy.

Superyacht UK, one of the largest associations within the British Marine Federation, and exists to support marine businesses in the UK supply chain and promote British excellence. The association is committed to improving, developing and expanding the market.
