Back to School

Leap into action this summer and join the growing number of business leaders who are going back to school. Solent Skill Quest is calling for companies to put their thinking caps on and support the Eastleigh and Southampton Enterprise events in June and July 2008.

Enterprise events play an important role in linking schools with businesses. As part of their curriculum school students learn about the skills they will need for their future careers. This can range from their appearance, behaviour, and time keeping through to the ability to produce and execute business plans. One of the best methods of achieving this is by learning from the knowledge and experience of the people in the local business community. Enterprise days facilitate this sharing of information and skills.

Solent Skill Quest is based in Southampton and is one of many Education and Business Partnerships (EBP) in the South East region who organise this type of event. Enterprise days involve company representatives working with students to guide them as they hone their entrepreneurial skills. Amongst the challenges that the team (and you!) may face are, developing a marketing strategy to sell confectionery in Europe, or producing a business plan for the school prom.

Solent Skill Quest will facilitate the events at schools in the Eastleigh and Southampton area. If you decide to take part you will be given details and fully briefed beforehand. All that they ask is that you are willing to spend a day working with the students to help prepare them for their future careers. They appreciate that your time is valuable, but the input of your knowledge is shown to be invaluable to the students.

People who have taken part in previous events describe it as being "an enjoyable and rewarding experience" and many companies use it as an opportunity to link with schools to get to know their future workforce.

If you would like to participate in the Eastleigh and Southampton Enterprise events or require further information then please contact Wendy Miller at Solent Skill Quest on 023 80706102 or by e-mail Wendy.miller@solentskill.co.uk
