MBE for Local Maritime Champion, Bill Moses

Bill moses

South East England's 'champion' for the marine industry and one of the driving forces behind efforts to bring prosperity back to the River Medway has been awarded a MBE in the 2008 New Year Honours list for his work with the Dover Counselling Centre and services to the marine business.

Bill Moses was formerly boss of the Channel ferry company Sealink, and following the Herald of Free Enterprise disaster in 1987 when a Townsend Thorensen ferry capsized, helped set up the Counselling Centre for the victims and their families. Such a service was unknown twenty years ago and Bill was a pioneer in the field. At the time Sealink were competitors to Townsend Thorensen but as Bill says 'it was a case of all hands on deck and the ferry community were as one towards those involved with the tragedy'. Bill went on to become chief executive of Hoverspeed and later, Sally Line and Port Ramsgate.

Bill has shown particular interest in the River Medway and was the author of a recently produced report recommending ways that both commercial and leisure interests could be developed on and around the river and he is Chair-elect of the River Medway Business Users Association.
