2008 promises to be a busy year for many with a number of events currently being finalised; those scheduled for February and March are highlighted below. Skills and innovation will be major issues for Marine South East over the next 12 months. Already, the first marine specific CAD/CAM training course, which started in January and was organised by Marine South East, has proved a hit with businesses in the region.

What’s new this month?

BRUSSELS has confirmed that it is to push ahead with its own ‘maritime day’ designed to take place four months prior to the World Maritime Day in September, which is co-ordinated by the International Maritime Organisation. European Union maritime affairs commissioner Joe Borg says there is a “widespread desire” for Europeans to celebrate their collective maritime heritage. The EU proposal is a response to the desire among stakeholders to celebrate Europe’s maritime heritage and future, and to throw a spotlight on its maritime activities.
