The Surface Ship Support Project, Tuesday 04 December 2007

Portsmouth Naval Base

Venue: Marriott City Centre Hotel, Bristol

Commodore Ian Jess RN, Director Surface Warships at Defence Equipment & Support, and his management team will present the emerging business strategy for the support of the current surface fleet including equipment management.
A key pillar of the maritime industrial strategy that emerged from the UK government's Defence Industrial Strategy was the need to review the business strategy for the support of the current surface fleet.

This review has been undertaken against a backdrop of many key issues including the reductions over recent years of the surface fleet, an earlier move at the start of the decade towards competition for warship refits, the impact of competition on the business and investment plans in the traditional refitting yards, the overall resources and capacity available nationally for ship support and the demand for it, an evolution towards incremental updating of capability and other more general aspects of equipment management associated with the through-life support of vessels.

The seminar aims to brief the wider UK naval and maritime defence industries on the current stage that the "SSS" project has reached and on the business opportunities which this now presents especially for SMEs.

All UK industry representatives who are involved in design, procurement, marketing, commercial and other activities associated with through-life support of maritime platforms and of naval equipment and systems are urged to register.
