Government announces more apprenticeships for the industry...
The first apprenticeship programme for older adults was unveiled last week by John Denham, the Skills Secretary of State. It was part of an announcement of a massive expansion of training schemes.

Dates confirmed for first subsidised CAD/CAM training package...
Superyacht UK and Marine South East have been working together to produce a package of subsidised Cad/Cam Catia training specifically for marine companies who have already adopted or are planning to use Catia software in their offices. We have the last few places left on the initial course which must be reserved by 10th December to take advantage of the subsidised offer.

UKTI have just published their marine sector report on the Netherlands, the 18 page report gives an overview of the marine sector in the Netherlands including superyachts and inland shipping as well as detailing the major boatyards, equipment distributors and chandlery outlets.

South East company celebrates DAME award triumph at this year’s METS...
The South East marine industry has cause for celebration following victory in the 'Marine Electronics' category of the DAME Awards (Design Award METS), at the Marine Equipment and Trade Show (METS) in Amsterdam on Tuesday. BMF member Secure Yacht Ltd. of Alton, Hants won for its dedicated marine access control relay product, Net 2 Marine Reader.

Marine South East new-look website...
Marine South East has recently redesigned its website to make it more interactive and easier to navigate. Changes include:
• redesigned home page with more pictures and a greater emphasis on news, events, tender opportunities and technology transfer opportunities
• New menu bar to make navigating the site easier
• Edited downloads page giving easier access to research reports, presentations, journals etc
• MSE projects listing so marine companies can quickly and easily find out about MSE current projects and receive updates when new information is posted on the site
• Dedicated MareNet page with information on forthcoming events, downloadable booking forms, presentations from past MareNet events
• Site map for the website

Marine South East PR and communications contract out for tender...
A two year contract to supply PR and communication services to Marine South East is due for renewal in March 2008. In order to ensure that a new two year contract is in place well before this date we are looking for companies interested in supplying this service to pitch for the work by 14th December 2007.
Companies interested in pitching for the contract need to be based within the SEEDA South East Region.

Marine South East has pledged its support to the Sink One 4 Seaford campaign at the recent November launch meeting. To help kick-start the campaign Marine South East has offered 50% of the funding for an initial scoping study.

The newly formed Cruise Partnership was launched last month aboard the iconic cruise liner, the QEII. The event was attended by a number of key business people from the region and local dignitaries including the Sheriff of Southampton.

Marine engineers could lead the way in green technologies...
Business Secretary John Hutton today called on UK manufacturers to respond positively to new opportunities created by emerging markets in the green economy, such as renewable energy and other low-carbon technology.
He announced that a renewed manufacturing strategy will look at how the Government can help British industry take advantage of opportunities presented by tackling climate change while ensuring that the UK is at the forefront of developing and manufacturing new green technologies.
