Schools Marine Challenge – plans race ahead for 2008 event

Schools Marine Challenge is seeing another year of growth since it started in 2006. We have just signed up our 20th school to take part, following on from the 10 schools that took part in the first year and then 15 schools last year.

Schools are already starting work on their designs, many of them involving local businesses and mentors to make their designs become a reality. However we are still looking for companies that would be able to spare a few hours to help schools make the most out of the project and learn more about what is involved in designing and building boats.

Schools taking part in 2008 include:
Bishop Luffa Church of England School, Chichester West Sussex
Dane Court Grammar School, Broadstairs Kent
Leigh CTC, Dartford Kent
Midhurst Intermediate School, Midhurst, West Sussex
Oaklands Community School, Southampton Hampshire
Quilley School of Engineering, Eastleigh Hampshire
Rainham School for Girls, Rainham Kent
Seaford College, Petworth West Sussex
Springfield Technology College, Portsmouth Hampshire
Carisbrooke High School, Newport Isle of Wight
St Andrew's C of E High School for Boys, Worthing West Sussex
St Anne's Catholic School, Southampton Hampshire
The Arnewood School, New Milton Hampshire
Oxford and Cherwell Valley College, Bicester Oxfordshire
St Birinus School, Didcot Oxfordshire
Manhood Community College, Chichester West Sussex
Newstead School for Girls, Orpington Kent
We are awaiting confirmation from two more schools in Southampton and one in Kent

We are also looking for companies that would be interested in sponsoring prizes or becoming a sponsor for this growing event. The event also provides an opportunity for marine companies to build links with local schools by providing technical support or advice to the teams. If you would like to get involved please contact David Rea either by calling 02380 111 597 or email david@marinesoutheast.co.uk
