Opportunities for businesses to provide smart energy solutions for island communities and off-grid locations

Businesses offering smart energy-efficient solutions such as offshore renewable energy, energy storage systems, smart grid systems, alternative fuels etc are being invited to sign up to the Intelligent Community Energy (ICE) European Project.

Companies that can supply electricity solutions will be able to promote their technologies and services in order to develop business opportunities to supply remote island and isolated off-grid communities including Ushant Island.
Many remote communities and islands have no connection to wider electricity distribution systems and are dependent on imported energy supplies, typically fossil fuel driven. These energy systems tend to be less reliable, more expensive and produce more greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than mainland grid systems.

Supported by Interreg VA France (Channel) England, the Intelligent Community Energy (ICE) project aims to facilitate the design and implementation of innovative smart energy solutions for isolated territories of the Channel area that face unique energy challenges.

An 'ICE' label will be awarded to applying companies to certify they have expertise in smart grids and their solutions are suited to isolated territories and are transferable. The 'ICE' label will offer commercial opportunities, testing possibilities and a package of support including market intelligence, networking and matchmaking events, increased market exposure and support to identify funding sources. The project is looking to sign up companies within the entire energy cycle from production through to consumption.
There will be opportunities for the smart energy solutions to be implemented and tested at real pilot demonstration sites in the UK and France. This project offers businesses a reduced competitiveness hurdle to access new markets and a possible launch-pad for the internationalisation of new technologies.
The smart energy solutions must be able to provide solutions or services within the framework of low carbon energy models for isolated territories.
