COLUMBUS Achieving Impact from Marine Research conference, 6th-7th November 2017, Brussels

COLUMBUS is an international forum to bring together actors interested in sharing best practice and learning about initiatives and progress in knowledge transfer.

The 'Achieving Impact from Marine Research' COLUMBUS conference will offer an opportunity to collaboratively explore the barriers and challenges and possible solutions to achieving the impact potential of marine and maritime research, at all stages of the funding cycle.

The conference, taking place November 6th/7th 2017 in Brussels is intended for all those who are invested in achieving greater impact from marine and maritime research such as funding agencies and evaluators, impact professionals, research organisations, potential users of research findings (eg industry and policy) and researchers themselves.

Session 1: COLUMBUS Scene Setting, Insights and Experience

COLUMBUS partners will introduce the objectives and key achievements of the COLUMBUS project to-date.

Session 2: Success in Knowledge Transfer

This session will celebrate impact achieved by European Commission-funded marine and maritime research projects. Examples with application of knowledge by new end-users including policy, industry, science and society.

Session 3: Towards a Future of Impactful Research

The research system needs to be examined to identify potential improvements and efficiencies to support increased impact from research. Solutions could include the incentivisation of impact beyond publications; brokerage roles between policy, industry and academia; or, funding systems that better support early-stage innovations. In this session, COLUMBUS will facilitate this conversation through
active discussions framed by presentations by keynote speakers.

Blue Society Award Ceremony
The winner of the COLUMBUS Blue Society Award for Impactful Knowledge Transfer will be presented during the conference. Please visit the website for further information on the nomination process.
