Yacht Designers and Surveyors Association Annual Conference, 8th March 2018, London

The Yacht Designers and Surveyors annual conference will take place on Thursday 8th March 2018 onboard RS Hispaniola, Victoria Embankment, London WC2N 5DJ.

The programme for the day is as follows:

9.30 Tea/Coffee and Pastries available

10.00 INTRODUCTION by the YDSA Chairman

10.15 EXPERT WITNESS TRAINING - Bond Solon will offer insight into how you know if a witness is telling you the truth. The presentation will include hints for understanding body language and word usage and refer to CPR practice direction.

11.30 Tea/coffee break

12.00 RIG SPECIFICATION AND CARBON FIBRE CLAIMS - an overview by David Barrow of Barrow International, who has many years of experience of all types of masts and spars, and an insight into NDT by Giles Waterhouse from Marine Results.

1.00 Lunch

2.00 SHOCK MITIGATION - John Haynes looks at how the risk of potential injuries can be reduced for crews and passengers on RIBs, sports boats and all types of craft. An understanding of ergonomics and biomechanics can help designers and surveyors identify fit for purpose equipment layouts. This includes the use of improved seating and deck materials.

3.00 Tea/coffee break

3.30 INSURANCE SURVEYS - discussion panel led by Keith Lovett, Amlin - what insurers are looking for in the various different types of survey such as boat insurance, accident and damage, fire, etc. This follows on from the brief discussion after the 2017 conference when we discovered there was a huge range of ideas! The intention is to provide surveyors with guidance on the content required by insurers.

17.00 Close of Conference

Delegates are invited to adjourn to the bar onboard RS Hispaniola at the close of the conference.
