Society of Maritime Industries Annual Conference 2017 - 26th-27th April, Dartmouth

The Society of Maritime Industries (SMI) 2017 Annual Conference, 26th -27th April at the Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth, will be opened by HRH The Princess Royal.

The conference will look at the maritime world today and the partnership of the UK maritime industries with the Royal Navy in support for the UK maritime enterprise through shipbuilding, repair, training, equipment procurement and the supply chain.

The two day event will focus on three distinct themes and speakers from across the Royal Navy and industry will debate and discuss the critical issues of:

* The Maritime World Today
* Supporting the UK Maritime Enterprise
* RN Shipbuilding, Repair, Support & Supply Chain

Kicking off the two day Conference will be Rear Admirals David Snelson, Chris Parry and Paul Bennett who will offer insights in to the geopolitical landscape and evolving threats in the maritime world today. Mr Stephen Phipson, Head of DIT-DSO and Professor David Lane, Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics, will conclude day one with discussions on the importance of maritime exports and technology developments to sustain the UK maritime industries.

Day two begins with Mr Tony Graham, Chairman of UKNEST, Professor Kevin Jones, Dean of Plymouth Marine Institute and Mrs Sarah Kenny, Managing Director – Maritime, Land and Weapons of QinetiQ discussing the support on offer to the UK maritime enterprise with reviews on training, research plans and test and evaluation facilities. Commodore Duncan Lamb, Head of the RFA, and Mr Guy Plattern, CEO of the UK Chamber of Shipping will talk about the role of the RFA in support of security operations and how civil and military relationships are being strengthened.

The final session of day two will be kicked off by Mr Steve Hyde, Leader of Naval Design Partnership, DE&S, Mr John Hudson, Managing Director of BAE Systems Maritime and Mr John Howie, Chief Executive Marine & Technology of Babcock, who will review partnerships with the Royal Navy. On the afternoon of Thursday 27 the Conference will conclude with talks by Russell Gould, CEO of Kelvin Hughes and Rear Admiral Henry Parker, Director Ships Acquisition of DE&S who will summarise the state of the current supply chain for naval procurement from the perspectives of equipment suppliers and provide an update on the current RN ship surface programmes.

The two day event will include a networking reception for conference delegates on the famed College Quarterdeck followed by dinner in the Senior Gunroom and will be an excellent opportunity to network, engage and debate with representatives from across the industry.
