New Boatbuilder Apprencticeship Standards and Assessment Plan published

An employer-led working group, has worked hard to get the new Boatbuilder Apprenticeship Standards and Assessment Plan published on the GOV.UK website.

The standard and plan was developed by a number of British boatbuilders. The new standard and assessment plan describes the job role an apprentice will be doing and the skills required of them by the boatbuilding sector.

The group has also collaborated with the City & Guilds Group to develop a new Level 2 Diploma in Boatbuilding (Foundation). The organisation is due to publish the handbook and specification for the Level 2 qualification at the end of the month (June 2016).

Colleges and other approved providers will be delivering the new qualification to new boatbuilding apprentices from September 2016. The associated Level 3 Diploma will be available from September 2017.

Guidance and information for employers and training providers about the new apprenticeship will be sent out in early July 2016.

This document is relevant to:

* those looking to apply for an apprenticeship
* employers wanting to recruit an apprentice
* training organisations working with employers to make the apprenticeships available
