New state-of-the-art Marine Skills Academy opens

A new state-of-the-art Marine Survival Complex will be opening at the Maritime Skills Academy in Whitfield near Dover later this month.

The new complex, incorporating training and conference facilities, will enable the training academy to extend the range and number of courses it offers. This will include a wide portfolio of MCA accredited Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers courses - known as STCW, together with refresher training, professional development and business to business services.

It will also allow the Academy to build on its philosophy of lifelong learning; providing a solid educational pathway for those pursuing, and furthering, a career at sea.

The Complex, ideally situated for ease of travel within the UK and Europe, is perfectly located for global shipping clients and maritime professionals seeking world class training.

In-house trainers offer both open and bespoke training courses for the global maritime industry, including cruise ships, superyachts, renewable support vessels and the oil and gas sector.

The complex will be officially opened by Sir Alan Massey KCB CBE, chief executive of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, alongside Commodore Barry Bryant CVO RN director general, Seafarers UK.

Unveiling the brand new Complex to invited industry guests, attendees will be able to tour the facilities and see live demonstrations; enabling them to see the onsite fire ground and training pool first-hand.
