Join the UK pavilion at Posidonia 2016

The Society of Maritime Industries is inviting UK marine companies to join the British pavilion at Posidonia 2016 - a leading marine equipment and services exhibition.

Greek ship owners and operators lead the world by controlling the world's largest commercial fleet, making up some 20% of total world deadweight tonnage. The Greek-flag element of their huge fleet on its own currently accounts for over 40% of merchant shipping sailing under EU flags.

The market strength of Greek operators is further underlined by their purchasing billions of dollars of second-hand vessels. Since 2007 the Greeks have ordered over 4,000 newbuilds, the most in the world, even in these difficult times. Almost half of all newbuild LNG's are Greek owned.

Keeping this huge commercial armada in business requires Greek owners to spend upwards of US$ 4 billion per year just on repairs, drydocking, conversions, equipment upgrades and general maintenance. The increasing demands of the ISM code and ever-more-demanding regulatory standards have seen major investments by fleet Operators in cutting-edge navigation and other shipboard technology and in customised software and IT systems both ashore and afloat

With modern second hand tonnage entering the world market, the Greeks are continually upgrading their fleets as they are in the main cash rich and taking the opportunity to buy quality tonnage at very keen prices. This tonnage should need maintaining, converting and upgrading work by British Equipment Firms. All in all, the Greek maritime community represents a huge market for hundreds of suppliers of equipment and services, for dozens of Shipbuilders, Converters and Shiprepairers, and for many financial, insurance and other institutions to which they have traditionally looked for support in pursuing seaborne trade. The major international Ship builders from around the globe are also present in large numbers at Posidonia.
