New Marine engineering CEMAST Centre of Excellence due to open September 2014 at Daedalus

In September 2014 all the current Fareham college Automotive, Engineering, Marine Engineering and Manufacturing courses will be relocated to the CEMAST Centre of Excellence, a new campus currently being built on the Daedalus airfield in Lee-on-the-Solent.

The site will become the central training facility for over 900 Full Time and Part Time Students, and will also act as the main learning centre for students in apprenticeship programmes with our partner companies - BAE Systems, GE Aviation, Virgin Atlantic, Coopervision, Burgess Marine, Jensen Motorsport to mention but a few.

CEMAST offers students a choice of career first and course second. Our focus is to provide all of the knowledge that a student will need to enter their chosen field and effectively prepare them for work and/or higher study. The CEMAST curriculum has been created in partnership with local industry leaders to ensure that students gain the most relevant and up to date industry knowledge.

Studying at CEMAST is an opportunity to develop your experience and understanding of technical subjects in an industry-standard environment. With an investment of over £12 million, the purpose built workshops will be equipped with the latest technology and resources.

With strong links and partnerships with local, national and multi-national businesses, our students will have an excellent standing to move directly into employment and/or higher study following the successful completion of their course. Our links with these companies also offer students experience in the industry workplace. Many of our students have been offered paid employment within their chosen profession as many businesses are quick to recognise the valuable level of technical knowledge that our students have.

For those looking to move on to university, we also offer higher level courses, such as the Higher National Diploma and Technical Baccalaureate. These enriched qualifications offer students an academic edge to enhance their technical studies.

Marine candidates will be able to complete an intermediate diploma or advanced diploma depending on their entry qualifications. The intermediate diploma is designed to provide the candidate with a specialist work related qualification and training in marine engineering. They will gain the basic skills and understanding of marine engineering. The course includes engineering processes and techniques, working practice and science and maths for technicians. The intermediate diploma or equivalent marine qualification are the entry level requirements for the advanced diploma. The advanced diploma provides the practical skills and knowledge needed to progress to an apprenticeship or further study (e.g. H.N.C or an engineering degree.
