Improved Wave Measurement and Forecasting System and Future Developments, 23rd April 2013, Chilworth, Southampton

This event will present advances in sea-state measurement, data processing and portrayal achieved by the WaveSentry project and will explore technologies and opportunities for further development of wave measurement and maritime forecasting.

Many marine operations are dependent on high quality information on sea-state information, including wave height, period, direction and steepness, for reasons of economics and safety. The information currently available is based on atmospheric/ocean models and lacks sufficient temporal and spatial resolution.

The WaveSentry project has developed a new information and forecasting tool for managing the risks of marine operations. The WaveSentry system exploits a range of available data sources such as real-time buoy and vessel derived wave measurements. It is also designed to accept new data feeds such as from 'satellite reflectometry'.

The WaveSentry project has developed techniques to substantially enhance the integration of diverse data sources, in order to offer improved sea-state data to multiple end-user markets and enhance existing meteorological and oceanographic forecasting products.

Objectives of event:

* To present the advances in sea-state measurement, data processing and portrayal achieved by the WaveSentry project.

* To explore technologies and opportunities for further development of wave measurement and maritime forecasting.

Who Should Attend?

* Decision-makers who would benefit from more accurate measurement of sea state and improved forecasting services. i.e. maintenance of off-shore renewable installations; passenger services; marine civil engineering; search and rescue etc.

* Engineers / scientists / academics working in wave measurement, sensor techniques, telemetry data fusion, modeling and sensor networks.

* Users from public authorities, water companies and coastal survey contractors
