Innovative and sustainable feed ingredients for the aquaculture industry, 22nd May 2012, Gothenburg

GU Holding AB, University of Gothenburg and Region Västra Götaland and its international partners are arranging this event, as part of the EMSAC project, to take place during the European Maritime Days 2012, to highlight the current situation of fish feed and what the future holds.

This burning topic will be the theme of a workshop taking place on Tuesday 22nd May 2012 at the European Maritime Day 2012, Gothenburg, Sweden.

The objective of the workshop is to bring together key European scientists, industries and policy makers within aquaculture and fisheries to discuss the industry's need for novel feed ingredients to produce sustainable and cost-effective fish feed. A major issue is to discuss sustainable and near future ingredient alternatives to wild caught fish as raw material for feed.

The speakers will give an overview of the current situation of fish feed and what the future holds as well as addressing burning issues and present alternative feed ingredients (e.g. fungi, microalgae, and mussel meal) to support a future sustainable aquaculture industry. The speakers and other experts within the field will take part in a panel discussion on the topic.

The workshop creates a platform that will not only strengthen the cooperation between industry, academia and policy makers but also promote dialogue and information-exchange on the topic. In addition, it is hoped that new professional networks will be created, which will be of benefit to future discussion on the topic.

The target audience is experts representing the aquaculture and fisheries industries and authorities, scientists, marine organisations and maritime clusters. The organisers aim to achieve a mix of participants from the above sectors with representation from different countries.
