Brittany Ferries announce return to Poole Harbour

Poole Harbour Commissioners are delighted to confirm that, following intensive and prolonged discussions with Brittany Ferries, the Ro/Ro ferry "Barfleur" will return to the Poole/Cherbourg route from March 2011.

This is excellent news for Poole which will once again see a regular passenger service between Poole and the Continent and a doubling of conventional ferry traffic sailings through the port.

The new service will also provide increased opportunities for freight operators seeking to cross the Channel. The freight ferry "Cotentin" will continue to operate from Poole providing 2 direct sailings to Santander every week as well as completing several crossings to Cherbourg, and the fast craft will also be continued.

Jim Stewart, CEO of Poole Harbour Commissioners, welcomed the news, commenting that the long standing relationship between his organisation and Brittany Ferries would be strengthened further by the reintroduction of the ferry. "Many passenger customers and hauliers will be delighted to see the 'Barfleur' back in Poole operating on a regular schedule.

We look forward to working closely with Brittany Ferries to ensure that their customers continue to receive a first class service from the Port of Poole. We are optimistic that they will recognise the advantages of the route and will support the 'Barfleur'. We recognise that the viability of the service will be reviewed next September – the message has to be use it or lose it".
