£205,000 dedicated to Strengthening the UK Composites Supply Chain

As we move to a low carbon and high value added manufacturing economy, composite materials will be a key enabling technology to exploit opportunities that arise from these changes.

BIS is funding a supply chain programme focused on strengthening the supply chain for composite materials. This is to take advantage of the opportunities in composite materials identified in the UK Composites Strategy which include the marine sector.

The programme consists of four Workshops plus FREE one-to-one technology transfer for SMEs.

Sector Specific Workshops (Dates and Venues to be announced)

* Opportunities from a transition to Composite Materials
* Opportunities for Composites Business in Aerospace and Defence
* Opportunities for Composites Business in Surface Transport
* Opportunities for Composites Business in Energy

These will include Meet the Buyer sessions where OEMs will be presenting their future requirements from the Composites Supply Chain. As well as this there will be talks about how companies can be supported in skills, technology and exporting.

FREE One to One Technology Transfer:

This is specific support to help key companies to develop their knowledge and capabilities in composite materials to take advantage of the identified opportunities.

They will involve an expert providing up to seven days of FREE one to one support to SME companies either already working with composite materials or looking to enter the supply chain. Support can be in many forms involving: materials selection, design, manufacture, processing, equipment selection, testing and QA.

We are looking to hear from people or organisations who:

* Wish to take part in the workshops
* Wish to benefit from the FREE One to One Technology Transfer
* Are Experts wishing to provide One to One Technology Transfer on a consultancy basis
* Are OEMs wishing to tap into the UK Composites Supply Chain and speak at one of the workshops

The programme will be completed by 31st March 2011 so support will be provided on a first come first serve basis.

The Programme will be managed by the National Composites Network (NCN) as a Special Interest Group of the Materials KTN. The Programme is endorsed by the National Composites Centre (NCC).
