Southampton Solent University’s Mentoring+ scheme

Southampton Solent University's Mentoring+ scheme is a real way to make a difference in someone's life and they are looking for more mentors to become involved.

Mentoring+ provides those students who feel they may be disadvantaged when they enter the workplace with an opportunity to get a head start on their careers by having the benefit of a one-to-one mentor from the local business community.

Southampton Solent University is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have great listening skills and the ability to provide objective advice to join their Mentoring+ scheme for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Being a mentor can involve helping increase a student's business awareness, assisting with clarifying their career goals, or helping with job search techniques such as improving their CV or providing interview tips. Some mentees need help and advice on things like time management or prioritising. What you do will be agreed between you and your mentee.

The scheme will run from November 2010 to May 2011 and we ask you to hold six 1-hour sessions with your mentee during that time. We offer training, to be held on the morning of Friday 12 November, and will hold a celebration event in June 2011 for all mentors and mentees to attend.

For more information and an application form, please contact mentoring@solent.ac.uk.

Please note the deadline for applications is Monday 25th October 2010.
