Profiting from our Past: The Modern Value of Maritime Heritage Conference on March 5 and 6 2008
Venue: University of Portsmouth
The conference highlights the value of maritime cultural heritage in the 21st century. Coastal areas are generally rich with heritage assets. They are the physical expression of our multinational past and are the building blocks of a cross community identity which can engender social responsibility, inclusiveness and a common sense of place. Accordingly, it warrants effective management.
This conference looks to determine how maritime heritage can be integrated fully with other sectors to ensure its benefits and also its future protection. The event will culminate with a field trip looking at maritime cultural assets in Portsmouth harbour from the land, sea and air (no plane involved!). This will put the issues discussed into context at a local level.
