New 3-D design training course launched to marine companies

The first CAD/CAM CATIA training course, specifically for marine companies, commences at the Marine Regional Resource Centre (RRC), Southampton, in January 2008. Superyacht UK and Marine South East have recruited leading Yacht Designers and Production Boat Builders who are planning to use or are already using the software..

The training consists of 2 x 5 day blocks covering the Fundamentals and the Advanced Marine Modules which have recently been introduced. Kenneth Cast, RRC Project Manager said;

“The funding from the collaboration of the CAD Training Pool and the RRC presents the best possible opportunity for British yacht designers to increase their knowledge and broaden their capabilities using this latest CATIA marine 3-D design software package. Hard won funding has significantly reduced the cost of this training for the Design Houses and more employers should seriously consider these heavily subsidised courses for their staff.

“Moreover, the RRC is working with the full support of the UK agent to ensure that the training packages are of the highest quality. We look forward to seeing more British designers make full usage of this fantastic offer to enhance their skills.”

The Project is being funded through SEEDA (the South East England Development Agency) and the purpose is to help marine companies to be well prepared for the use of advanced technology to remain competitive in the global market.

Although the initial training package is for CATIA, further training courses based on other software packages will be developed to encourage companies to up-skill their staff from 2-D to 3-D methods of design and manufacture. Companies who participate in the courses will be asked to assist with developing the training by providing constructive feedback and will receive a tapered subsidy. This will decrease as the course is developed and the biggest benefits will be gained by companies who enroll for the initial courses.

Training can be provided at work locations as long as a suitable room is available and the course is fully subscribed. Even if you are unable to fill 6 places with your own staff you may know of other companies who would be willing to work with you to fill the course.
