Become a part of a national maritime recycling scheme

Stirling consultants

Stirling Consultants UK Ltd has over the last 20 months identified an opportunity to enhance the recycling facilities within ports, harbours, marinas, beaches, commercial ports and fishing fleets within the UK.

The idea is to recycle as much waste as possible from resident and visiting vessels or locations generally thereby contributing to a significant environmental benefit, meeting corporate social responsibilities and potentially reducing costs and in some cases providing revenue opportunities for operators.

Some of the more pro active companies/organisations have already started to adopt recycling schemes within their locations. In some cases these appear to be more "add ons" to their hazardous waste obligations rather than fully engineered solutions.

The opportunity has been trialled in Salcombe Harbour with on water facilities and shore side collections to great success and is now being rolled out through various locations throughout the UK.

The learning and experiences of this pilot scheme are all being fed into a national scheme which is currently being rolled out.
Experience has shown that by implementing this type of solution operators should be able to save the region of 35 - 55% of the total waste bill for the year.

The scheme should be live in some 40 - 50 locations by the end of 2007 and 100 by the end of 2008.
