Marine Industries Skills Centre opens its doors for first time
The Paragon and ITE Training Group opened a new training centre for the marine industry across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight on Tuesday 20th March. The development of The Marine Industries Skills Centre in Fareham is part of the expansion of the Group’s presence in the area.
The Centre was officially opened on the 20th March by Mrs Anne-Marie Mountfield, Partnership Director of Hampshire and the Isle of Wight Learning and Skills Council and Adrian Humphries, Chairman of Paragon and ITE Training Group.
Opening the Marine Industries Skills Centre, Mrs Mountfield said: “The investment of nearly £1m has allowed learners to access and take part in programmes dedicated to Marine training. It will be a boost to the local area and to our ambition of producing world class skills.
“Paragon and ITE Group should be applauded for its commitment to this Centre and to the development of this facility.”
The new centre will add to the company’s current training facilities, and will mean vastly improved training facilities for young people and for local employers. The 13,000 square foot development is part of an initiative to provide opportunities for the local community to grow the skills needed by employers in the marine sector.
Paragon and ITE Training Group offers training for both young people and adults; for Apprentices, skilled workers and for employers wishing to send their staff on update courses. As a partner of the South East Centre of Vocational Excellence for Marine Industries, the Group aims to improve national competitiveness for the industry through training.
The new centre will provide state-of-the-art practical training workshop areas for marine engineering, boat building and marine electrical training, superbly equipped classrooms and pneumatic and hydraulics training equipment.
Steve Vernon is the Project Manager for the new development and states: “The Marine Industries Skills Centre is an invaluable asset to local industry and will improve our facilities for both practical and theoretical training for marine qualifications. It is an investment into the future of Fareham.
“We continue to work closely with employers, which will ensure that the new centre meets the needs of the industry and this community both now and in the future. We very much welcome the opportunity to show the centre to both local residents and employers alike.”
