Solent Marine Community publishes new brochure...
As part of the SEEDA-funded Solent Marine Community project Marine South East has published a brochure and website promoting the Solent area. The target audience is primarily overseas companies and the objective is to attract inward investment.

Superyacht UK pavilion helps South East companies make the most of Dubai International Boat Show 2008...
The sixteen companies that exhibited in the Superyacht UK pavilion at this year’s Dubai International Boat Show (DIBS) all reported strong interest and growth in the Middle East Marine Market.

EDSnet: An Active Year and New International Links...
Through the Environmental Decision Support Network, (EDSnet) Marine South East co- hosted a successful cross-border Ocean Monitoring Innovation Workshop and reception. Both events were supported by SEEDA and took place during the Oceanology International 08 Exhibition at Excel, London on 12 March. The workshop was held onboard the French Naval Vessel ‘LAPLACE’.

EDSnet project update...
The EDSnet EMSAC, (European Marine Scientific Applications Consortium) FP7 bid scored very highly but did not secure funding. However it triggered a growing interest in knowledge networking on a European Scale, particularly in cross border applications. There is recognition of a need for industry focused cross-border networking in areas of innovative applications. Through EDSnet activities MSE has positioned itself at the centre of a growing international knowledge network that is well placed to engage with the European Research Area and develop technology themes beyond the end of the Knowledge Network Programme.

New opportunities mark the end of an era for the GKN No.3 Towing Tank...
After 38 years of providing high-speed hydrodynamic testing services to the marine industry the historic No3 towing tank at GKN on the Isle of Wight has been decommissioned. Overwhelming commercial pressures have forced GKN to reluctantly dismantle the towing tank. The space is to be used for additional aerospace manufacturing activities that will provide employment for up to 50 people. Marine South East has been working with GKN to develop a strategy for the future provision of hydrodynamic testing facilities.

Vospers technology finds its way into the Schools Marine Challenge...
Schools Marine Challenge plays an important part in the development of links between schools and businesses across the South East. By working together knowledge is shared and the next generation of marine engineers and designers are on their way to success. Already the competition between the 20 schools involved in this year’s Challenge is heating-up with St Anne’s Convent Girls School in Southampton taking a very methodical and scientific approach.

Kingston University (KU) has a strong track record of working closely with business to ensure that the learning opportunities it provides are valuable to employers and students. To this end, they are always on the lookout for new ways to contribute to the success of businesses.
Kingston has been encouraged by the Government to build on existing strengths to develop a new kind of work-based learning Foundation Degree (Fd). This will enable company employees to carry out a programme of study based on subjects and projects closely relevant to individual business’s needs. Learners will not have to attend traditional classes, but will participate in an online learning community with other work-based learners.
