How the marine sector might fit into the new Local Enterprise Partnerships...

Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) are the Government's initiative to rebalance the economy towards private sector economic activities, with a particular emphasis on advanced engineering and manufacturing to achieve export-led growth in high-value employment.

Business investment will be pivotal to increased wealth creation, supported by public infrastructure that encourages such business investment. To achieve this, the objectives and outcomes of LEPs must be jointly 'owned' by private and public sectors.

Kent businesses urged to sign up to new online business directory for offshore wind...

The UK's first interactive online business directory dedicated to the offshore wind industry recently went live.

The portal, http://www.Kentwindenergy.co.uk is an interactive online business directory dedicated to supporting the growth of the offshore wind industry in the Thames Estuary and southern North Sea.

It has been developed through the Backing Kent Business campaign and its sponsors including Thames Gateway (Kent) Chamber of Commerce and the County Council, in collaboration with London Array and Marine South East.

Gosport Business Awards 2010 open for entries...

The 2010 Gosport Business Awards recognise Gosport businesses that can demonstrate their acheivements and contribution to the local community. They also provide a unique opportunity to acknowledge and reward the entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to business excellence which exists in the Borough.

Applicants have until 24th September in which to apply to one or more of the seven Awards available. These include Customer Service Excellence, Most Promising New Business and Benefit to the Local Community; as well as a new category called “Manufacturing Excellence”.

Vince Cable MP announces £34 million contract for South East marine company...

While on a visit to Delhi, Vince Cable MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and President of the Board of Trade, announced that Griffon Hoverwork has won a £34 million contract to supply the Indian Coastguard with twelve 8000TD hovercraft.

Speaking from Delhi, Mr Cable stated that “this contract is a very significant step for this Southampton-based firm. Patrolling a coastline as long as that of India is a huge challenge and I am delighted that a UK firm has been selected to help the Indian coastguard in this task. I wish the company every success in their future, and hope this partnership leads on to further cooperation.”

Port and harbour dredging event, Brighton, 30th September 2010...

The European funded SETARMS Interreg project is holding a one-day launch seminar in Brighton on 30 September 2010.

SETARMS is a joint Anglo-French project set up to examine the common problems experienced in the dredging of ports and harbours on both sides of the Channel. Partners on the UK side include the Universities of Brighton and Exeter and on the French side a number of ports are directly involved.

There is no charge for delegates attending this seminar.
